Clinical
Claire has been a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at Royal Papworth Hospital since 2018. She performs catheter ablation and device implantation, runs electrophysiology and device clinics, and holds a National Clinical Impact Award at level N1 (2023).
Pioneering new treatments
Claire has pioneered new clinical treatments for heart rhythm disorders, several of them used for the first time in the UK or worldwide:
- 2018First in the world to use the IntellaNav MiFi OI ablation catheter (Boston Scientific), which uses local tissue impedance to guide ablation.
- 2018First in the world to use the Lumipoint mapping algorithm, which helps identify the critical sites to ablate in ventricular tachycardia and is now part of the Rhythmia mapping system.
- 2020–21Part of the team leading UK use of the POLARx cryoballoon for atrial fibrillation ablation; UK Chief Investigator and Steering Committee member for the multi-national POLAR ICE study of its safety and effectiveness.
- 2022, 2024First team in the UK to use Farapulse (2022) and Affera (2024) pulsed field ablation for atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia.
- 2023Reported the first worldwide use of pulsed field ablation for ventricular tachycardia via a retrograde approach.
Guidelines and national standards
- 2025Specialist adviser to NICE for its guidance on pulsed-field ablation for atrial fibrillation (published July 2025).
- 2025Contributed to worldwide guidelines for management of atrial tachycardia.
- 2026Contributed to worldwide guidelines for pulsed field ablation for treatment of atrial fibrillation.
Working with industry
Claire works with industry to develop new device and ablation technologies and consults on their clinical use. She advises leading medical device companies on device development and clinical best practice, including Boston Scientific, Biosense Webster, Medtronic and Abbott.
